P-38L crash report - NTSB   report of a P-38L crash near Tillamook, OR, on June 6, 1997.  From the description, and by putting two and two together, I believe this is the fatal crash that took the life of well-known aviation author and P-38 enthusiast Jeffrey Ethell.  The report is full of details on the P-38L.

Another P-38L crash report - NTSB.  The famous "White Lightning" went down June 25, 2001 while returning from an air show.  Fortunately the pilot was not badly injured.
